La Panadería

One of the best panaderías by far in Harlingen, Texas (if you ask my mother or the family) is Lara’s Bakery over on Polk Avenue.

If the local regulars or the line of customers sometimes out the door are any indication, the hype is well deserved.

We stepped in on Sunday morning to grab some goods and when I tell you there’s nothing like a still warm concha, freshly baked and unbelievably soft. This and a cup of coffee are the kind of treats you can expect to be served when entering the home of friends or family here. Many thanks to the people of Lara’s who graciously tolerated my camera as I tried to capture everything that makes the place one in a million. I’ll be looking forward to my next visit on my next stop into town. Until then.
